<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>CNN reports that the WHO (World Health Organization) is warning people not to treat H1N1 like any other flu epidemic.</p>
<blockquote><p>The H1N1 virus has now become the dominant influenza virus around the globe, with high levels and an increase of activity in many regions, the World Health Organization said Thursday.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>In a weekly update, the WHO&#8217;s point person on the H1N1 virus, Dr. Keiji Fukuda, also warned the public not to treat the virus like just another flu.</p>
<p>But unusually for influenza, Fukuda said, H1N1 continues at high levels over the summer months, and many of the serious illnesses and deaths are concentrated in people younger than 65.</p>
<p>Seven months into the pandemic, the virus commonly known as swine flu remains at high levels and continues to increase in North America, Fukuda said. Mexico, for example, has seen more cases from September to November than they saw in the preceding months from April, when the virus emerged, he said.</p>
<p>The virus is also becoming more active in Europe and Central and Western Asia, Fukuda said.</p>
<p>&#8220;At WHO, we remain quite concerned about the patterns we are seeing, particularly because a sizable number of people develop complications [that lead to death],&#8221; he said. &#8220;We do see that the serious complications are concentrated in the younger age groups rather than the older age groups.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>This of course highlights the extreme need to reform healthcare today in America, and provide quality care for everyone. If we can stress and offer preventative care early on, and have people not so afraid of going to the doctor or hospital we could see less and less people spreading and dying from the disease.</p>
<p>I digress of course. What I want to know is if you have, or are planning on getting the H1N1 vaccine? Feel free to elaborate on your reasons for whatever decision you have made!</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/11/11/women.health/index.html?eref=rss_world">CNN</a> reports that woman&#8217;s health has become an international urgent priority. This is following news that the house has passed a health care reform bill that essentially strips a woman&#8217;s right to control and choose their own reproductive health care. The part of the bill, known as the Stupak amendment will not allow any insurance company to provide abortion coverage if one individual uses any type of government funding to pay for the insurance plan. (I wrote about it <a href="http://wp.me/pBppk-3X">here</a>)</p>
<p>The WHO (world health organization) report that the state of reproductive health care, and woman&#8217;s rights is very alarming on a global level.</p>
<blockquote><p>Societies fail women at key moments in their lives by not offering them quality health care, which undermines their ability to reach their full potential, the World Health Organization says in a new report.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>The report declares that woman&#8217;s health is an &#8220;urgent priority&#8221; and says that women are shortchanged on medical care especially in adolescence and, then again, later in life.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;If women are denied a chance to develop their full human potential, including their potential to lead healthier and at least somewhat happier lives, is society as a whole really healthy?&#8221; asked Dr. Margaret Chan, director-general of WHO. &#8220;What does this say about the state of social progress in the 21st century?&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>What does it say when a supposedly free nation denies these basic rights to half the population in a bill that is supposed to offer more/better coverage to all of its population?</p>
<blockquote><p>Perhaps the most striking difference can be found in maternal mortality. Some 99 percent of the 500,000 annual deaths during childbirth happen in developing nations.</p></blockquote>
<p>While I do not have the statistics on hand (I will find them and post an update when I do) I would be curious to know how many of these deaths could have been avoided if the mother had all reproductive health care choices available to her, as well as control over her own health choices. Your thoughts on this?</p>
<blockquote><p>Much of the report focuses on sexual and reproductive health, which it says are vital to woman&#8217;s well-being, but it also says &#8220;harmful behaviors in relation to sex, tobacco and alcohol use, diet and physical activity&#8221; during adolescence can haunt women later in life.</p>
<p>&#8220;We will not see significant progress as long as women are regarded as second-class citizens in so many parts of the world,&#8221; Chan said. &#8220;In so many societies, men exercise political, social and economic control. &#8230; These unequal power relations translate into unequal access to health care and unequal control over health resources.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>GASP! You mean a legislative body that is compromised primarily of men, has been compromised primarily by men, can&#8217;t be unbiased when it comes to womans reproductive health care needs? You mean to say that as long as women do not have a voice politically, socially, or culturally they will continue to be at the mercy of male decisions about what is right and wrong for the woman folk to do, think, act, say, wear, have medically available to them? I am SHOCKED SIR! SHOCKED!</p>
<blockquote><p>In making woman&#8217;s health a priority, the World Health Organization says it is trying to improve health care for women and girls around the world, as well as strengthen health systems everywhere.</p>
<p>&#8220;Improving women&#8217;s health matters to women, to their families, communities and societies at large,&#8221; the report concludes. &#8220;Improve women&#8217;s health, improve the world.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Could it be because healthy woman lead more productive lives? Could it be because the very existance of the population of the human race relys heavily on the reproductive abilities that a woman possesses?</p>
<p>In other related news on misogyny in the world. <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/11/10/brazil.short.dress/index.html?eref=rss_world">Brazil</a> has FINALLY decided to back down on banning a woman from being able to complete her education because of what she was wearing.</p>
<blockquote><p>A private university in Brazil said Tuesday that because of negative public reaction, it reversed a decision to expel a student who wore a short dress to class, but the school&#8217;s assistant rector defended the original decision.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>Geisy Arruda, a 20-year-old studying tourism at the Bandeirante University, known as Uniban, near Sao Paulo, gained notoriety October 22 when dozens of students harassed and heckled her about the rose-colored dress she wore. It had sleeves that reached past her forearms but barely stretched past mid-thigh.</p>
<p>The university expelled Arruda but this week said it would readmit her after a public outcry that included a protest and counter-protest in front of the university.</p></blockquote>
<p>Because a woman cannot possibly wear something without thinking about the male reaction. Because a woman cannot be responisible for herself only, and must take into account all the thoughts, feelings, and interactions she will have with male counterparts.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;The University Council [which expelled Arruda] followed procedure and was very brave because it upheld the rules of the university, even with all the attention,&#8221; Brown said. &#8220;The decision to readmit the student is not an admission of a mistake but a look at the issue from another perspective.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>This of course coming from a country where the thong is practically national dress apparel, and are famed and known for their liberal and loving lifestyle.</p>
<blockquote><p>The mini dress itself was not the problem, Brown said. Arruda&#8217;s reported behavior stirred classmates into last month&#8217;s frenzy that led to her expulsion, officials said.</p></blockquote>
<p>So, at what point do we as a society grow up and stop trying to control other peoples actions and decisions? At what point do we stop trying to police everyone around us and take full responsibility for our own decisions and actions? When will enough be enough? When will we learn to respect each other&#8217;s choices, decisions, moral code, religion, faith, culture, ideas, differences?</p>
<p>I suppose I have some time to wait until the rest of the world grows up and stops treating anyone who disagrees with them as less than human. Let me know when you see that happening! Share your thoughts on the state of woman&#8217;s rights, status, health care/reproductive options, ect.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;">Yours Truly,</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The new health care plan that passed through the house is a HUGE attack on any and every woman. Period. While the excitement that the house was FINALLY able to pull themselves somewhat together to pass a bill intended to reform healthcare, what they pulled together is just as bad as not having anything at all.</p>
<p>Grant it, this bill does have provisions for preventative mental health care for adults and children and I am really excited about that!</p>
<p>The problem is that this is not a plan that will cover everyone, and it is a plan that is going to only herd more people into insurance plans that rule by pre-existing conditions!</p>
<p>The biggest issue is the Stupek bill that is extraordinarily against women. The nation has not only ruled that abortion is LEGAL and therefore something that should be a HEALTHY option for a woman, but has already inacted provisions that do not allow public funding to be used towards an abortion. It already exists that no woman can use public money to get a health care plan that provides MEDICALLY LEGAL AND SOUND procedures for reproductive care. The provision that is in the house bill will ban ALL woman from being able to have a PRIVATE health insurance plan that provides abortion or reproductive care. This is atrocious.</p>
<p>The Stupak&#8217;s amendment goes as follows.</p>
<p>&#8220;Sally&#8221; makes $30,000 and is a single (i.e. unmarried) woman. She has some assistance from the government for her healthcare and bought it using the forum. Lets say that the government assists her in paying $100 a month on her premium. &#8220;Joyce&#8221; is married and has no financial assistance from the government for her health care plan. She has had the same health care plan for years, which provides full reproductive care (that means it includes abortion coverage). Sally enrolls  with the same healthcare company as Joyce (which is very probably since there are only a handful of private insurance companies) Since Sally gets government funds to afford her healthcare, then the insurance company can no longer offer abortion coverage. Which means that Joyce, who gets not public funds for her healthcare, now just lost the ability to get abortion coverage.</p>
<p>Fundamentally, the promise was that if you like your current health care plan, you won&#8217;t have to change it. Joyce does not get this option.</p>
<p>The second problem is that the ones who are near or below the poverty line are the ones who need the most assistance with health care. They are the ones who MOST need abortion coverage. They are the ones who will be MOST affected by this amendment.</p>
<p>The next big problem is that this is directly against my right, or any womans right to make decisions over HER OWN BODY! The majority of pro-life individuals are against the government being &#8220;in their bedroom&#8221;. With this amendment, the government is in every single womans uterus.</p>
<p>This bill is discrimination against woman. Where in this entire bill is there a provision that controls or deny&#8217;s a man a medical procedure. No where does it attempt to control a man&#8217;s ability to get reproductive care. Why do these individuals believe that they have to &#8220;control&#8221; or help a woman make decisions regarding their own health. The fact is that Roe v. Wade has made abortion LEGAL. To pass this amendment is to essentially try to overturn Roe V. Wade.</p>
<p>When will woman be treated as equals to men? When will woman be allowed to make decisions regarding their own health. I think that if this amendment is going to stay, the ALL reproductive rights should be out of coverage. That means no more Viagra, no more testicular cancer coverage, no more male or female reproductive coverage. If its good for the goose, its good for the gander. Right?</p>
<p>How far back do we have to go? Finally we have protection for woman who are raped or in danger for health reasons. Abortions are covered state by state. It is something that is regulated heavily. I do not care what certain groups opinions are regarding abortion, they should not have the ability to control what I LEGALLY do with my own body. Its my decision, my choice. It is the decision and choice of every woman that is NEVER done lightly.</p>
<p>Besides, to have to have private coverage for abortions is backwards. An abortion is for an UNPLANNED pregnancy, to have to have additional coverage for an abortion ahead of time is to have a planned pregnancy. If someone knew when they were going to need an abortion, they probably wouldnt need an abortion because they could prevent the need for an abortion.</p>
<p>Who ever believes that abortions are done willy-nilly are completely uninformed buffoons. NO ONE plans to have an abortion, no one likes to have abortions, not one person uses abortions as contraceptives. It is not cheap, it is not an easy choice, it is not a choice that ANY WOMAN makes without seriously considering other options. It is not an option that woman need taken away because they need to be controlled.</p>
<p>I would love for each and every pro-life person to put their money where their mouth is. There are MANY children that are born into this world because an abortion was not an option for the mother. Lets start by taking care of those children. By getting them out of foster care, out of abusive homes, out of poverty, out of mental health wards, out of orphanages, out of prisons and jails. Let start by enforcing adequate sexual reproduction and options. Lets start by getting rid of abstinence only education because that is OBVIOUSLY not working. If a woman knew and fully understood her choices and options to prevent a pregnancy, if a man knew and fully understood his options to prevent a pregnancy. We would not need extensive abortion coverage. Besides, no method of contraceptive is fail proof. There are mistakes, accidents. And unplanned pregnancies. This is what abortion is used for.</p>
<p>You cannot stop people from having sex. You cannot stop or put an age limit on sexual activity. Instead of trying to do the impossible, explain to your kids their options and the correct way to prevent pregnancy. Teach your children early on and they may NEVER need to seek an abortion as an option for an unplanned or wanted pregnancy.</p>
<p>And stop trying to control people. Not everyone subscribes to your methodologies, religion, or beliefs. Not everyone believes the same things you do, so please stop trying to control everyone else. Worry about your own soul. Let me worry about mine.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Today Maine will <a href="http://opinion.latimes.com/opinionla/2009/11/spooner-gay-gay-rights-gay-marriage-same-sex-marriage-maine-question-1.html">vote</a> at the ballots if they will incorporate same sex marriage along with a handful of other states.</p>
<blockquote><p>If voters defeat <a href="http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iGQ6LMSOvL9rjDHrAmyO9mHoVieAD9BMT3280">Question 1</a> &#8212; meaning if they affirm the right of gay and lesbian couples to marry &#8212; Maine will become the first state to support same-sex marriage at the ballot box. So far, such marriages have been legalized only through court rulings or legislative action.</p>
<p>Polls have shown an extremely tight race, and supporters of same-sex marriage have been hoping to get a boost from an 87-year-old World War II veteran who has become the Internet face of opposition to Question 1. Close to 600,000 people have watched <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrEbJBFWIPk">Philip Spooner</a> on YouTube, recounting in a public hearing earlier this year the wrenching sights of blood and death he saw in action and his belief that the sacrifice was in support of a nation that extends equal rights to all.</p></blockquote>
<p>If you have not seen the video, I highly encourage you to watch it. He is not saying anything exceptionally different or astounding. He is not doing anything that countless other people have done. Except of course if you count standing in front of a legislative body as a citizen, a war hero, a father, a religious man, and not letting anyone or anything scare him away from speaking from the heart. His story is incredible and his strength and conviction should not be second guessed.</p>
<p>Human rights are fought for everyday and have been fought for in every war. And yet here at &#8220;home&#8221;, we are putting to vote a basic human right. voting for the right to have both state and federal protections is equatable to voting for ending slavery, to woman&#8217;s suffrage, to civil rights, to equal not separate. Since when do we get to vote away rights from a minority group?</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;I believe it&#8217;s something in the water or the air in this state that recognizes individual rights and anti-discrimination attitudes,&#8221; the governor said by phone from Augusta, the capital. &#8220;It&#8217;s more of a libertarian-type state than it is Republican or Democrat. We have two Republican senators, two Democratic representatives, and there have been two independent governors.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>The <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/11/02/AR2009110201107.html">Washington Post</a> states that the same group that sphere headed the Prop 8 campaign has taken the exact same campaign (minus swapping actors out) and are pushing the exact same fear agenda that having same sex marriage will force schools to teach that same sex marriage is ok in school.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;I refer to it as sustainable advertising, where you have the same themes,&#8221; said Scott Fish, communications director for Stand for Marriage Maine. &#8220;It&#8217;s the same issue, and many of the concerns were the same.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Except its not an issue at all.</p>
<p>// &lt;![CDATA[<br />
if ( show_doubleclick_ad &amp;&amp; ( adTemplate &amp; INLINE_ARTICLE_AD ) == INLINE_ARTICLE_AD &amp;&amp; inlineAdGraf )<br />
{<br />
document.write(&#039;</p></div>
<p>') ;<br />
}<br />
// ]]&gt;</p>
<blockquote><p>Advocates of same-sex marriage responded to the ads with an opinion from state Attorney General Janet T. Mills stating that the law would have no effect on what is taught in schools.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;No way, José,&#8221; Mills said. &#8220;Allowing same-sex marriage does not require teaching of gay marriage in the schools any more than allowing divorce requires teaching of divorce in the schools, or allowing adoption requires teaching of adoption in schools.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>Fish called the opinion irrelevant, because curriculum is largely decided by local school boards. &#8220;Neither does it say it won&#8217;t be taught,&#8221; he said.</p></blockquote>
<p>Right, and neither does it say that they won&#8217;t teach children how to make homemade bombs, or how to shoot rifles, or how to murder someone without fearing forensic evidence, but that doesn&#8217;t mean that they will start doing that either. Does it? Of course not, what does marriage have to do with math? English? History? Geography? Nothing. So why would one start teaching about heterosexual marriage, or homosexual marriage? And even if one does start teaching tolerance and equality in regards to homosexuals, that does not mean that the conversation with automatically turn any child listening to it into a homosexual. Homosexuality is not something that can be passed on like an STD. You can&#8217;t catch the gay. You either are or your not. Talking about it doesn&#8217;t change a thing, just like talking about civil rights movement doesn&#8217;t make you change the melatonin in your skin.</p>
<p>Now looking at preserving the sanctity of marriage, lets look at the thing that is destroying marriage by the bucketful, divorce. Personally, I like Neil Manimala&#8217;s take on in in <a href="http://www.usforacle.com/to-avoid-hypocrisy-california-should-ban-divorce-1.2036254">The Oracle</a>:</p>
<blockquote><p>“Proposition 8 bravely protected the institution of traditional marriage by making sure that gay people could not participate in it. I loved Proposition 8 but felt it did not go far enough,” said writer John Marcotte, the author of the 2010 initiative, on his Web site rescuemarriage.org.</p>
<p>According to census estimations, married gays would account for less than 1 percent of people in California. However, about 10 percent of the state population was divorced last year.</p>
<p>If homosexuals can’t marry for the mere fact of protecting traditional marriage, the larger remainder of the population — heterosexuals — shouldn’t be allowed to leave their marriages because it has a larger effect on the general idea of marriage — the sanctity of marriage.</p></blockquote>
<p>Perfect! If you want to protect marriage, then protect it all the way. No one gets a divorce because that will DESTROY THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE.</p>
<blockquote><p>“After all, (Proposition 8 supporters) weren’t trying to take rights away from gay people. They were just trying to protect traditional marriage,” Marcotte said in an interview with the San Diego News Network. “I’m sure they will support this 100 percent, even if this time it is their rights that get diminished. It would be hypocritical for them not to support us.”</p></blockquote>
<p>If they did not support this ban on divorce, then they would have been going against equal protections for all citizens, not on a preservation of the sanctity basis, but on a bigoted reason. It would not be in defense of their religious beliefs, because most if not all religions frown upon divorce. In fact, the fear of religious backlash is what many couples from getting a divorce against an alcoholic, abusive, or cheating partner.</p>
<blockquote><p>Besides limiting hypocrisy, the Marriage Protection Act is also expected to curb the cash-strapped state’s expenses. According to California’s Legislative Analyst’s office, the amendment could save the state and local governments hundreds of millions of dollars every year by eliminating divorce proceedings.</p></blockquote>
<p>EVEN BETTER! Not only is it going to save marriage, but its also going to save the state from bankruptcy! Its a win-win! I like this even better than banning marriage rights for everyone. If one group or class if individuals cannot receive the rights like everyone else, then no one should get those rights.</p>
<p>Makes sense that Maine would save ALOT of money by banning divorce proceedings since the cost of filing a divorce no where near covers the court costs for it. And it would end the endless loop of divorce cases that can last years or decades! In reality, Maine is voting on the wrong thing, they shouldn&#8217;t be voting on banning same sex marriage, but on banning divorce which is actually the true evil since <a href="http://www.mpbn.net/News/MaineNews/tabid/181/ctl/ViewItem/mid/3475/ItemId/9490/Default.aspx">Maine is ranked 2</a> nationally for having the highest divorce rate behind Las Vegas.</p>
<blockquote><p>According to the Pew Research Center, 15 percent of Maine women are currently divorced, compared to the national average of 12 percent, and 12 percent of Maine men are currently divorced, compared to nine percent nationally.</p></blockquote>
<p>Makes sense that if the intent is to preserve the sanctity of marriage, it should start with not allowing marriages to dissolve into divorce.</p>
<p>The Bill of Rights and the Constitution deems that we are all created equal, we all have the same protection under law, and we all should have and receive the same legal benefits as everyone else. At what point did we decide that voting away rights was ok? At what point do we decide that the majority have a better opinion than a minority. This is not about socialism or communism, this is about the ideals this nation was based on being preserved.</p>
<p>I watch with bated breath to see what decision Maine will make. Will they preserve the intend of ideals this nation was built on? Or will they force a single groups ideals upon the rest of the populace? I hope they make the right choice&#8230;</p>
<p style="text-align:center;">Yours Truly,</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I fell upon this little ditty about a <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_trouble_in_taos">hotel owner</a> who can&#8217;t handle the realities of America today.</p>
<p>Larry Whitten wanted to turn around an ailing hotel. He apparently thought that the best way to do that is to strip away the dignity and culture of his Hispanic workers.</p>
<blockquote><p>The tough-talking former Marine immediately laid down some new rules. Among them, he forbade the Hispanic workers at the run-down, Southwestern adobe-style hotel from speaking Spanish in his presence (he thought they&#8217;d be talking about him), and ordered some to Anglicize their names.</p>
<p>No more Martin (Mahr-TEEN). It was plain-old Martin. No more Marcos. Now it would be Mark.</p></blockquote>
<p>Wow&#8230;narcissistic much!? Of course people only speak a foreign language around you to talk about you. Its the entire reason foreign languages were created. Its a secret plot to organize and work together to destroy hotels owned by white, bigoted men, by creating a fake language and culture and talk about the secret evil plans while they stand right there&#8230;.unaware!</p>
<p>I wonder if the names had not been Hispanic. It is common in the African-American culture to take names and respell them or add an African twist to the name to separate if from the &#8220;White&#8221; version. Would he have required African-Americans to change their spelling or pronunciation in their names as well?</p>
<p>All this is not what surprised me. I have grown quiet accustomed to the idiocracy that is &#8220;White America&#8221;. Its Anglo-centered ideals and its xenophobia. What surprised me is this:</p>
<blockquote><p>Whitten&#8217;s management style had worked for him as he&#8217;s turned around other distressed hotels he bought in recent years across the country.</p></blockquote>
<p>What had worked for him before! He has done this not just once&#8230;but multiple times&#8230;and no one has had a problem with his blatant racism until now!</p>
<blockquote><p>His rules and his firing of several Hispanic employees angered his employees and many in this liberal enclave of 5,000 residents at the base of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, where the most alternative of lifestyles can find a home and where Spanish language, culture and traditions have a long and revered history.</p>
<p>&#8220;I came into this landmine of Anglos versus Spanish versus Mexicans versus Indians versus everybody up here. I&#8217;m just doing what I&#8217;ve always done,&#8221; he says.</p>
<p>Former workers, their relatives and some town residents picketed across the street from the hotel.</p></blockquote>
<p>WHAT?! Really?! You&#8217;re surprised and SHOCKED that forcing people to change the pronunciation of their name might offend them?!?! I could almost&#8230;ALMOST&#8230;see the requirement to speak English at the workplace&#8230;ALMOST&#8230;but changing the way you say your name&#8230;Just because it makes you uncomfortable?</p>
<blockquote><p>After he arrived, Whitten met with the employees. He says he immediately noticed that they were hostile to his management style and worried they might start talking about him in Spanish.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Because of that, I asked the people in my presence to speak only English because I do not understand Spanish,&#8221; Whitten says. &#8220;I&#8217;ve been working 24 years in Texas and we have a lot of Spanish people there. I&#8217;ve never had to ask anyone to speak only English in front of me because I&#8217;ve never had a reason to.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Why is it that the people who claim to not be racist or bigots or even unfair to a specific ethnic or racial group always believe that said group is secretly plotting against them? What makes him think that any of these individuals would bother wasting time on speaking negatively about him. Its the same thing with closet homophobes, they always believe that a gay, lesbian, bisexual, or even transsexual person is going to hit on them. Because all gay people want to sleep with them, just like all Hispanic people want to talk shit about him behind his back.</p>
<p>24 years in Texas, and not once did he bother to learn a little bit of Spanish? Or bother to understand the customs of not only the employees of his hotel, but the patrons as well?</p>
<blockquote><p>Some employees were fired, Whitten says, because they were hostile and insubordinate. He says they called him &#8220;a white (N-word).&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>Fired hotel manager Kathy Archuleta says the workers initially tried to adjust to his style. &#8220;We had already gone through four or five owners before him, so we knew what to expect,&#8221; Archuleta says. &#8220;I told (the workers) we needed to give him a chance.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>Then Whitten told some employees he was changing their Spanish first names. Whitten says it&#8217;s a routine practice at his hotels to change first names of employees who work the front desk phones or deal directly with guests if their names are difficult to understand or pronounce.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;It has nothing to do with racism. I&#8217;m not doing it for any reason other than for the satisfaction of my guests, because people calling from all over America don&#8217;t know the Spanish accents or the Spanish culture or Spanish anything,&#8221; Whitten says.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>Martin Gutierrez, another fired employee, says he felt disrespected when he was told to use the unaccented Martin as his name. He says he told Whitten that Spanish was spoken in New Mexico before English. &#8220;He told me he didn&#8217;t care what I thought because this was his business,&#8221; Gutierrez says.</p>
<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t have to change my name and language or heritage,&#8221; he says. &#8220;I&#8217;m professional the way I am.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>This is what I find particularly offensive. As if Spanish was never spoken on this land before Anglo&#8217;s arrived. Not just that, but its as if no other state, or nation has Hispanic individuals who speak Spanish. How ignorant does he believe American people are, that they cannot comprehend the Spanish equivalent of Martin? As if pronouncing the &#8216;i&#8217; as an &#8216;e&#8217; is going to stress a patron out soooooooooo much that they will immediately hang up the phone or trounce out of the hotel upon having to see the individuals name. Whitten proves just how ignorant and out of touch he really is by verbalizing a belief that Spanish is a language and culture that no one but him and those involved in it would understand. The fact is, they were here first. They owned the land first, they lived and cultivated it first, and they have just as much ownership and citizenship as he does. In fact, one could argue that Mexican-American&#8217;s are more American than he is because they did not need to have their ancestors travel over here from foreign countries.</p>
<blockquote><p>The messages and comments he made in interviews with local media, including referring to townsfolk as &#8220;mountain people&#8221; and &#8220;potheads who escaped society,&#8221; further enflamed tensions.</p></blockquote>
<p>Yeah&#8230;because that&#8217;s not offensive at all. Why are &#8216;these&#8217; people so sensitive all the time?!</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;What kind of fool or idiot or poor businessman would I be to orchestrate this whole crazy thing that&#8217;s costed me a lot of time, money and aggravation?&#8221; Whitten said.</p></blockquote>
<p>Uhhhhhhh&#8230;..you?</p>
<p style="text-align:center;">Yours Truly,</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://wp.me/pBppk-3r">Part One</a> is from an article that he wrote in September. Part two is from the same place but from an <a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=113463#">article written on Oct. 20</a>.</p>
<p>In this work of literary hate, Buchanan not only shows how racist he is, but also how much he dislikes anyone who is not a white male.</p>
<p>Lets dig in&#8230;shall we?!</p>
<p>Buchanan writes about a new fringe group calling themselves the &#8220;Oath Keepers&#8221;, who vow never to allow the Government from taking away the rights given to them by the Bill of Rights. He says the constitution, but&#8230;well&#8230;we get our rights from the BILL OF RIGHTS!</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;The whole point of Oath Keepers is to stop a dictatorship from ever happening here,&#8221; says founding father Stewart Rhodes, an ex-Army paratrooper and Yale-trained lawyer. &#8220;My focus is on the guys with the guns, because they can&#8217;t do it without them.</p></blockquote>
<p>Soooo&#8230;I guess we are just going to ignore the whole violating rights thing that happened with the patriot act? Oooh! right, that happened under Bush, so it doesnt count as a government dictatorship cuz hes a republican. My bad!</p>
<blockquote><p>And if the Pelosi-Reid progressives went postal over town-hall protesters, calling them &#8220;un-American,&#8221; &#8220;Nazis&#8221; and &#8220;evil-mongers,&#8221; one can imagine what they will do with the Oath Keepers.</p></blockquote>
<p>Um&#8230;I guess I must have missed the part where they were throwing the word Nazi around. Of course I wouldn&#8217;t argue with anyone if they believed the protests were un-American since they depicted the President of the United States (who was voted in by a majority btw) as Hitler, a monkey, a witch doctor, or were burning the American flag, or intimidating others with automatic weapons. Yeah, that doesnt sound much like patriotism to me. But then again, I could be one of those socialist, communistic, facist, nazi, individuals who believe that everyone should be treated fairly and equally like the constitution and the bill of rights states they should. Silly me for being all &#8220;anti-America&#8221; like that.</p>
<blockquote><p>As with Jimmy Carter&#8217;s long-range psychoanalysis of Joe Wilson, the reflexive reaction of the mainstream media will likely be that these are militia types, driven to irrationality because America has a black president.</p></blockquote>
<p>Well if the last post that you wrote has any depiction&#8230;I would say yes. I agree with you Buchanan. We have a nation of groups of minority racists who are running around claiming to represent the majority. Where would they get these ideas from? Where could they be egged on from?</p>
<blockquote><p>Yet, the establishment&#8217;s reaction seems more problematic for the republic than anything the Oath Keepers are up to. For our political and media elite seem to have lost touch with the nation and to be wedded to a vision of America divorced from reality.</p></blockquote>
<p>GASP! O..M..G&#8230;you mean media elite like Fox News? That has individuals who egg on violence, hatred, and spew racist redaric like it was going out of style?</p>
<blockquote><p>Yet, they cannot comprehend what would motivate Middle America to distrust its government, for it surely does, as Ron Brownstein reports in the National Journal:</p></blockquote>
<p>What could it be? what could possibly cause people to not trust the government? Could it be the &#8220;media elite&#8221; (thanks Sarah Palin) who run stories without fact checking, could it be Fox News, who refuse to correct blatantly false information they through out there? Naw, couldn&#8217;t be!</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Whites are not only more anxious, but also more alienated. Big majorities of whites say the past year&#8217;s turmoil has diminished their confidence in government, corporations and the financial industry. &#8230; Asked which institution they trust most to make economic decisions in their interest, a plurality of whites older than 30 pick &#8216;none&#8217; – a grim statement.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Poor white people. Since the beginning of time they have been picked on, knocked down, discriminated against, have not been able to hold any positions of power, are not able to become rich or powerful, cannot get a decent education, and have no stake or control over the progress of this nation since it was founded.</p>
<blockquote><p>Moreover, the alienation and radicalization of white America began long before Obama arrived.</p></blockquote>
<p>Right, it must be hard having Christian, white, men in power.</p>
<blockquote><p>In their lifetimes, they have seen their Christian faith purged from schools their taxes paid for, and mocked in movies and on TV.</p></blockquote>
<p>Christian faith does not represent the faith of this nation. Wanna know why? Because according the the Bill of Rights, we have a nation that is free from religion and religious tyranny. So a public school that is paid through public tax dollars cannot impose religious beliefs upon its public school students. Far be it for the Muslim or Atheist child to feel comfortable when getting an education.Of course, this also insinuates that only Christian individuals pay taxes.</p>
<blockquote><p>They have seen their factories shuttered in the thousands and their jobs outsourced in the millions to Mexico and China.</p></blockquote>
<p>Which is not only allowed but protected by Republican interest groups. Instead of reiging in corporations that take advantage of American workers, they want them to have more freedom. Instead of forcing corporations, that export work and import products giving work to other nations, to pay the taxes that they should forcing them to stop outsourcing work, they advocate and demand these corporations be allowed to do this work. It seems to me that the pot is calling the kettle republican.</p>
<blockquote><p>They have seen trillions of tax dollars go for Great Society programs, but have seen no Great Society, only rising crime, illegitimacy, drug use and dropout rates.</p></blockquote>
<p>I suppose its convienent to forget the fact that White males compromise the largest amount of individuals on death row. Or compromise the largest amount on welfare, or sexual prediters. Weird&#8230;</p>
<blockquote><p>They watch on cable TV as illegal aliens walk into their country,</p></blockquote>
<p>ok, so it is the &#8220;illegal aliens&#8221; fault that these individuals are to lazy to get a job? or would prefer to watch tv?</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8230;are rewarded with free educations and health care&#8230;</p></blockquote>
<p>And could you please direct me to where these same illegal aliens are getting free education or health care? Because I do believe that if they live here, they still pay property taxes through their rent or home ownership. And even if they live in a box, they must still pay taxes on the goods and services they purchase. Not to mention that if they go to a get medical assistance, they still recieve a bill, regardless if they are legal or not. Oh! or how they are not eligible for social security, food stamps, or welfare regardless of how they work.</p>
<blockquote><p>and take jobs at lower pay than American families can live on –</p></blockquote>
<p>Who&#8217;s fault is it that corporations are paying individuals lower than livable wages? Is it the typical American? or the Republican party which constantly complains about the high rate of minimun wage, or are currently trying to lower minimum wage in order to help these said corporations.</p>
<blockquote><p>then carry Mexican flags in American cities and demand U.S. citizenship.</p></blockquote>
<p>This super irks me. Because illegal aliens are not just Mexicans. They are Canadians, Puerto Ricans, Columbians, South Americans, Polish, Irish, English, African, Asian, Italian, ect. ect. I hate to burst the &#8220;painting with a broad brush&#8221; bubble that your riding Buchanan, but illegal aliens are more than just the individuals down south. Should we, also then, require that anglo-saxen individiauls take down their flags as well? Or require that all &#8220;foriegn born&#8221; individuals never be eligible for citizenship? That would mean no more importing medical personal. No more importing scientists, teachers, or engineers. Because they are the illegal aliens taking the low paying jobs that Americans are to lazy to work.</p>
<blockquote><p>They see Wall Street banks bailed out as they sweat their next paycheck, then read that bank profits are soaring, and the big bonuses for the brilliant bankers are back. Neither they nor their kids ever benefited from affirmative action, unlike Barack and Michelle Obama.</p></blockquote>
<p>Bank bonuses that are protected by right interest groups. But thats not something we want to talk about is it? Oh, or the fact that neither Barack or Michell Obama are products of affirmative action. Of course you are then assuming that only minority&#8217;s are eligible or use affirmative action. Because no white woman has ever used affirmative action, or benefited from it. Of course not! After all, the only people who need to have power are white, christian, able bodied males! Screw the rest!</p>
<blockquote><p>America was once their country. They sense they are losing it. And they are right.</p></blockquote>
<p>Who&#8217;s country? Males? Whites? Christians? The non-handicapped? The Rich? non-Blacks/Hispanics/Asians?</p>
<p>Of course sensing that the White, male, Christians, are loosing &#8220;their America&#8221; has nothing to do with the blame that comes to everyone who does not fit into that category. And blaming specific minority groups, ethnicities, religions, race, is totally not racist at all. In fact, its not about race. Its about the double standard of race. Reverse Racism!! Thats it! RIGHT?!?</p>
<p>After all, its never your fault Buchana, its always everyone elses!</p>
<p style="text-align:center;">Yours Truly,</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article/article?f=/c/a/2009/10/27/BAEA1AB71L.DTL">SF Gate</a> reports that a second suspect has been charged with the vicious rape of a 15 year old girl. According to reports, she was waiting for her father to pick her up from a school dance when she was raped for 2 hours. No one came to her rescue or called police during the assault. She had to be airlifted and is currently in stable condition.</p>
<blockquote><p>A 15-year-old boy who attends the school was arrested late Monday on suspicion of sexual assault. The suspect, whose name was withheld because of his age, was booked at Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall in Martinez.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>The boy and former student Manuel Ortega, 19, and as many as five other people attacked the girl in a secluded part of campus on Saturday night, police said. The group had been drinking, and for more than two hours, no one tried to stop the assault or called police.</p>
<p>Police believe she was waiting for her father to pick her up outside the school at 1250 23rd St., in the northern flatlands of Richmond near Doctors Medical Center. Before he got there, however, a friend from school invited the girl to join a group of people hanging out and drinking, said police Lt. Mark Gagan.</p>
<p>The girl drank a large amount of alcohol before she was sexually assaulted by members of the group, police said. The girl was airlifted to a local hospital.</p></blockquote>
<p>I ventured into the comments, which I rarely do&#8230;but for some reason I was interested in seeing what people would say in a situation where it was obviously an atrocious crime.</p>
<p>Shocked&#8230;not anymore. The comments intermingled with blaming &#8220;liberals&#8221;, immigrants, the father, the parents, and of course the victim.</p>
<p>Why is the blame focused anywhere except to the perpetrators of this horrendous crime? What the hell do politics have to do with the fact that 15 year olds are GANG RAPING classmates? I don&#8217;t get it, I don&#8217;t see it.</p>
<p>This is exactly where rape apologists come in. It wasn&#8217;t the perpetrators fault. The girl shouldn&#8217;t have been drinking, the girl should have waiting for her father, the girl should have stayed at the dance, the girl should not have trusted her friend, the girl should have never left the house, the girl should not have worn that outfit, the girl should never have been born. Otherwise this would have never happened.</p>
<p>Let me spell this out. The. Victim. Is. Never. To. Blame.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t care if she was giving lap dances fully nude.</p>
<p>I dont care if she was 30.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t care if she was drunk.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t care if she consented to having sex with one person.</p>
<p>She did not consent to being GANG RAPED.</p>
<p>It is not her fault or her responsibility to control or assume other peoples actions. They only people that can or should be held responsible for their actions are the perpetrators.</p>
<p>The father is not to blame. We do not know if he told her it would take time to pick her up, if he was looking for her, or if he assumed she had changed her mind and was still inside the dance. We do not know if he, like many parents, assumed his daughter would be safe at a school dance. I am positive that no father would want his daugther to be GANG RAPED, and he would have done all he could to stop this from happening.</p>
<p>The parents of the perpetrators are not to be blamed for the actions that THEY decided to do. Parents can no more control the actions of teenagers than I can control the time the sun rises or the moon sets. Unless the parents were participating in the rape or sanctioning it, they cannot be held responsible for the actions of these rapists. (I would contend that all parents have a responsibility to educate their offspring to be moral individuals, and have a responsibility to know where they are at all times, but that still does not put them at fault for what these rapists decided to do. For all we know, the parents may have thought they were attending a school sponsored dance and would be monitored. )</p>
<p>What does nationality have to do with anything? I could be wrong, (which I am not) but nationality plays no role in identifying a rapist. Nor does it help in predicting if someone is a rapist, if they will rape again, if they have plans to rape, or the victims which they would rape. Argueing about a perpetrators citizenship does nothing.</p>
<p>I urge people to stop focusing on blaming the victim or excusing the assaults. All focus should go on placing blame where it solely belongs,</p>
<p>On the individuals who CHOOSE to sexually assault someone.</p>
<p>Period.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>First let me say that I used rape on purpose instead of sexual assault or assault or any other form of the world. Why? because it was rape. What happened in that locker room was rape. And I do not want to minimize the impact of the act, or the horror of it, or the strength of the word or its effect on the victim.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/06/04/florida.sexual.assault/index.html">CNN reports</a> that four teenage males were charged in Tampa Florida for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13 year old boy. The four are charged as adults.</p>
<blockquote><p>Hillsborough County prosecutors allege the four boys raped the 13-year-old victim multiple times over two months with a broomstick and hockey stick.</p>
<p>Prosecutor Kimberly Hindman described to the court how two defendants held down the victim while the other two defendants violently sodomized him with the sticks. &#8220;The victim screamed and cried, telling them to stop,&#8221; Hindman said</p></blockquote>
<p>These four men, not boys because they are no longer considered blameless children once they violently sodomize another classmate, held this boy down and VIOLENTLY sodomized him. Not once, or twice, but multiple times&#8230;over and over again.</p>
<blockquote><p>The prosecutor said the victim&#8217;s screams could be heard outside the boys&#8217; locker room at Walker Middle School, in southern Tampa, where the alleged assaults took place.</p>
<p>Multiple people witnessed the attacks, but no one reported the incidents, including the victim, Hindman said.</p></blockquote>
<p>No one reported the assault, no one stood up for the victim, no one stopped the rape from taking place. No one felt it was necessary or important enough to step in and say something, or tell someone.</p>
<blockquote><p>The school began an investigation after a fight that began on the football field and continued until a coach broke it up in the locker room, said the prosecutor. During the fight, the victim said, &#8220;I&#8217;m tired of them getting on me,&#8221; Hindman said.</p></blockquote>
<p>None of the school officials, the coaches, the teachers, noticed the screams from this boy as he was being raped. No one noticed his behavior changed, no one noticed him being victimized and bullied&#8230;for two months.</p>
<blockquote><p>When school officials questioned the defendants, all four admitted in a written statement that they had sexually assaulted the victim.</p>
<p>The defendants &#8220;all implicated themselves in a sexual-battery incident,&#8221; Hindman said.</p></blockquote>
<p>This is no longer &#8220;ALLEGEDLY&#8221; raped a boy. They admitted that they sodomized him repeatedly. They admitted to holding him down and raping him. They each admitted fault.</p>
<blockquote><p>Defense attorneys told the judge their clients were good students and had never been in trouble before. Attorney Tim Taylor, representing Randall Moye, said his client&#8217;s family is among the finest in the community.</p></blockquote>
<p>Obviously they were not &#8220;good&#8221; students when they were sodomizing their classmate. Obviously they are no longer &#8220;never in trouble&#8221;. It goes without saying that it matters nothing the type of family a perpetrator comes from. The young man&#8217;s actions have nothing to do with his families &#8220;goodness&#8221;.</p>
<blockquote><p>Taylor presented six character witnesses, including his client&#8217;s mother, Jeanne Myers, who said her son wants to attend college. The prosecutor asked her about her son&#8217;s written statement about the attacks. Myers said her son described clowning around in the locker room with a hockey stick. She added that he told her about holding down the victim for a few seconds.</p></blockquote>
<p>Perhaps he should have thought about that before he violently raped a classmate several times over the course of two months. This is not a situation where an individual &#8220;accidently&#8221; raped someone. Or they &#8220;didn&#8217;t know or hear&#8221; the lack of consent. This isn&#8217;t a case where this was a one time deal and they were &#8220;unaware&#8221; of their own actions. They freely admitting to raping this child.</p>
<p>Let me just say, a few seconds, an hour, a minute, a day. It does not matter how long he was held down for, it does not matter for how long he was sodomized. It only matters that he was raped, he is a victim, and should be treated as such.</p>
<p>Let the rape apologists and victim blaming begin!</p>
